We hope you're well. This weekend marks both the longest day of the year and Father’s Day. So, if there’s anything golf-related that you want or if you need to buy a last-minute gift before Sunday, we are here to help. Thanks to all those who have been into the shop since we opened on Monday. Until the 1st July, I'm keeping the shop open as much as possible whilst popping out to keep up with coaching demand. Please drop in and say 'hello'! Please remember it's one in - one out, please be patient.
Enjoy the read.

Myth busting your favorite Coaching 'Tips'
|
| OOOH WHY?? | How many times have you been told your "looking up too soon" or told to "keep your head down" This probably is a reoccurring problem. The reason for that is you have not solved the problem or identified the ACTUAL problem. |
| Not the way to finish! | You may find that your finish position looks and feels a little like Dave's (not his real name). His weight is on his back foot and chest pointing upwards. It's going to be tricky for Dave to keep his head down now...isn't it? |
|
"Keep your putting stroke the same speed, just vary the length!" I know we have all heard that one at some point, also many coaches still suggest it. The reason for increasing the swing length is to create more clubhead speed, therefore hitting the ball a little further along the green. Keeping the swing speed the same and the ball will always go the same distance. |

Try this... When you swing the club back, say to yourself "back" When you swing it through, say "through". Back - through, back - through, back - through. For a longer Putt... When you swing the club back, say to yourself "backwards" when you swing it through, say "forwards". Backwards - forwards, backwards - forwards. The longer the words.. the longer the stoke and the quicker the club will travel. |
"You'll get worse before you get better" Before we had any technology (Launch Monitors and High-Speed Video), golf pros relied on returning everything to 'textbook'. Lesson one might be a neutral grip, posture, stance...you're already feeling very uncomfortable. Adding in a couple of swing thoughts and it feels almost impossible. I aim to pick out the single biggest fault which, when changed, will give the biggest improvement. I hope you would find my lessons less destructive and more constructive! |
Sharon A great coach and really understands us as individuals and adapts your coaching to the person - not too technical but also showing how it should be done! Thank you for your work with me this year, thoroughly enjoyed as always. Scott
It’s very good value for money for the little tips that have improved my game already. Totally enjoyed it, would highly recommend to anyone! Bring on the next medal. John
For me, I now feel I have a better understanding of my swing/technique and when I'm not hitting the ball properly I have a good foundation to go back to and what to work on to put it right. For that reason alone, the winter programme has worked for me.

Many of the "good old sayings" can sometimes be more detrimental to your swing rather than helpful. The only way to really understand...you guessed it, get some professional advice. I would be happy to help. Get yourself booked and have a lesson. If, at the end on the session, you do not like the direction the session has taken or you don't feel like it's going to be of benefit...just let me know and I will give you your money back. To book a lesson, please email me info@ollierushgolf.com or text/call on 07841 869042.

The PGA Tour is back Did you manage to catch a glimpse of the PGA Tour’s return last weekend? It was quite a stellar field with lots of the world’s best taking the opportunity to dust off the cobwebs ahead of what’s set to be a fantastic few months in the golfing calendar. One player that caught our eye was Bryson DeChambeau. Now, he’s known as being very scientific and analytic in his approach to the game. For example, he’s been seen spraying water over his balls on the range to mimic the dewy conditions he finds himself in during the early morning rounds. Not a bad idea!
Well, the American looked like a completely different person last week and has spent much of the past few months hitting the gym in a bid to add extra distance to his game. Something he vowed he would do last year and has truly delivered! That being said, if you feel like you want to hit the ball further, it could take something as simple as a little tweak to your swing – an area we can certainly help with! Just send us a message here.
